Dear OSU Students,

As the situation in Ukraine continues to escalate and impacts follow globally, it is very likely that cyberattacks on computer systems will increase. We want to help you protect your personal devices from threats that may occur and ask that you remain vigilant and watch for any unusual computing activity in your personal digital and computer devices. If you see something unusual, say something. More information about who to contact regarding suspicious or possibly threatening activity is found below.

You can help protect your devices and computers by regularly updating your devices (phones, etc.) and computer software. Also watch out for:

  • Phishing attempts: These include emails that try to get you to provide your personal information, including banking information. Please ignore these emails and delete these and other suspicious messages that you do not expect to receive or if something seems odd about them, after you report them to [email protected].
  • Unanticipated job offers: We have seen many fake job offers being sent to students. If you are uncertain whether a job opportunity is legitimate, forward the email offer to [email protected]
  • Unusual or unanticipated things affecting your computer: This includes unexpected pop-ups, software asking to be installed, a system running slower or acting unusual, etc.  If you have concerns or need help, please contact the OSU Service Desk for support at https://oregonstate.teamdynamix.com/TDClient/1935/Portal/Requests/TicketRequests/NewForm?ID=Dr9c0T7BaSI_ .

If you notice any suspicious digital or computer activity, please report them to the Office of Information Security at https://uit.oregonstate.edu/infosec and use the Report a Security Incident Form choices of phishing or a security incident.

If you have questions or concerns, please contact the Office of Information Security at [email protected]. We appreciate your engagement and help!

Respectfully,

David McMorries, Chief Information Security Officer, Office of Information Security
