Project Summary:

Our office partnered with the Academic Success Center to develop a faculty feedback/early alert mechanism at OSU. This mechanism allows for the reporting of students who are at academic risk. We leveraged baseline functionality in Banner Self-Service to provide a process where one can report off of, and be able to inform college advisors about the feedback the faculty have shared. This allows college advisors to partner with other academic support offices to alert students to university resources that may help with academic struggles.

This feedback/early alert was piloted during the Fall 2019, Winter 2020  and Spring 2020 quarters.

Update - 1/4/2022: OSU conducted a pilot of the Faculty Feedback tool within Banner Self-Service during the Fall 2019, Winter 2020, and Spring 2020 quarters in the Colleges of Liberal Arts, Engineering, Public Health and Human Sciences, and Business. The goal of this pilot was to determine if the tool would be a suitable mechanism for faculty to notify academic advisors and other staff regarding students who may need support beyond what an instructor is able to provide. The tool was not utilized much at all during the pilot: a total of 36 submissions were made during the pilot. In March of 2021, the Office of the Registrar sent a survey to the faculty who submitted feedback and to the staff who received the submissions to determine the effectiveness of the tool. The survey resulted in 8 responses. While no concerns were reported with the tool, it was not reported as particularly useful. Only one respondent indicated that the tool is a “value added” for students. Some pilot colleges, such as the College of Business, have developed other tools to allow faculty to provide early feedback. Based on the extremely low use during the pilot and the tepid response to the tool from users, and following consultation with the Council of Head Advisors, we have sunset the Banner Self-Service Faculty Feedback tool. Efforts are underway to expand another program that has shown to be more utilized and effective: the Student Care Liaison Program.
