As part of our ongoing commitment to cybersecurity, we transitioned OSU’s login system to Microsoft Entra Single Sign-On (SSO) to streamline the sign-in process and increase protections against cybersecurity threats. To further enhance OSU’s security posture and resiliency, we are updating the sign-on frequency. These changes will take effect on Wednesday, December 4.

Why the Change?
The new sign-in frequency aims to balance security and ease-of-use, establishing protocols that determine how often you need to complete the OSU Login process and multifactor authentication (Duo).

What’s Changing?

  • General Applications: You will stay signed in for 30 days for most applications, including Outlook and other Microsoft applications.
  • Sensitive Applications: You will need to sign in every 24 hours for applications handling sensitive information, such as Banner, EmpCenter, and VPN.
  • Highly Sensitive Applications: We are currently evaluating a protocol that requires a sign in every 12 hours for highly sensitive applications. This will apply to a small number of applications that require access to sensitive data, which may include employee and financial information. Community members impacted by this change will be notified prior to implementation.

What Does this Mean for You?
You will encounter a different frequency of sign-in times depending on the application you are using. You will be prompted by OSU Login when required after the changes take effect.

If you have questions, concerns, or experience issues with OSU Login after the change, please contact the Service Desk at beav.es/help or by calling 541-737-8787.

Please note security changes will be ongoing as we continually strengthen our cyber dam to protect the OSU community from evolving cyber threats. We understand the impact of these changes and appreciate your support and commitment to the safety and security of the OSU community.

Respectfully,
