Dear OSU Students,

As we enter the cold and flu season, it’s crucial to prioritize your health and the health of our community. This year there has been a notable increase in Pertussis cases (also known as “whooping cough”) in Oregon, so awareness of prevention of this disease is more important than ever.

Here’s how you can stay healthy and help stop the spread:

Get Vaccinated!

You can check to see when you had your last Tdap booster and flu shot in the patient portal. If you aren’t current on your Tdap vaccine, please consider getting vaccinated, especially if you’ll be around infants, pregnant individuals, or the elderly during the holidays. Additionally, remember that the flu vaccine is your best defense against the flu, and it’s not too late to get your shot.

Where To Get Vaccinated

You can check with your insurance provider to find out where you can get your vaccines covered. Whether it’s here at OSU Student Health or at a local pharmacy, this is a great opportunity to ensure you’re protected before the holiday season.

Other Preventive Measures

While vaccination is key, remember to practice good hygiene: wash your hands frequently, cover your coughs and sneezes, avoid close contact with those who are sick, and wear a mask if you are sick. Learn self-care tips to help you feel better when you are not well.

Let’s work together to keep our university community healthy this season. Thank you for taking these important steps to protect yourself and others!

Take care,
Kelly
