From: Office of Government Relations
OSU community members,
At Oregon State University, our mission calls on us to promote economic, social, cultural and environmental progress for the people of Oregon, the nation and the world. Encouraging civic engagement is an important way we do that.
Whether volunteering, staying informed on issues, joining a political party, or advocating or canvasing for an issue or candidate, you can engage in many ways. OSU’s policy on political activities guides these efforts.
Perhaps the most important way to participate in democracy is to vote. We encourage everyone eligible to vote this November in the 2024 General Election.
Election day is coming up quickly. Oregon’s vote-by-mail system makes it easy to vote, as long as you are registered. To vote in the November 5 election, you must register by Tuesday, October 15.
If you are not registered to vote, we encourage you to do. ASOSU is in a voter registration competition with UO; students can register through StudentVote. Also, TurboVote makes it efficient for all citizens to register, update registration information and receive election reminders.
If you are already registered to vote in Oregon, please review your voter registration information through the Secretary of State’s website.
It is essential to update your mailing address to where you will reside on November 5. In Oregon, having ballots mailed to your current mailing address is legal, even if that location differs from your residential voting address. Additionally, if you have changed your signature or party registration, you must update your voter registration information with the Secretary of State.
If you are registered in a different state and reside in Oregon, you must apply for an absentee ballot through your home county or state’s elections office. It is not legal for anyone, including the post office, to forward your ballot.
The Oregon Secretary of State provides more information for student voters.
Please take the time to register to vote — and once registered, please participate in the election. If you have questions or need information about voter registration, please connect with the appropriate elections office:
