From: Dean of Students
Dear Hawaiian OSU Students,
Earlier this month, the world woke up to the shocking devastation left behind by fires that ripped through Hawai’i, specifically Maui and Lahaina. Over 100 people lost their lives because of the Maui fires, and hundreds more are still missing. This unfortunate incident impacts many OSU community members. Some students, faculty and staff call Hawai’i home. Others have connection to Hawai’i through friends, family, or work relationships.
We are reaching out to you directly as OSU students from Hawai’i. We share in your pain because of the devastation taking place in your home. Our hope is that you have been able to communicate with your friends and loved ones and they are okay despite the challenging conditions.
Given your direct ties to Hawai’i, we are reaching out to provide care and support. Impacted OSU students may contact:
- Student Care Team for general resource support and referrals
- Counseling & Psychological Services for mental health and counseling supporting
- The Graduate School for support and services related to the circumstances of being a graduate student
- Office of the Registrar for assistance with enrollment or withdrawals related to current circumstances
Additional student support resources may be found at https://experience.oregonstate.edu/.
In solidarity, we remember those lost and those forever impacted. Moments such as this may bring despair. We hope that from the despair will arise a deep sense of resiliency and a commitment to the nurturing of one’s self and community. Please take care.
Sincerely,
Kevin A. Dougherty, Ed.D.
