Hello, Bend Beavs,

I hope your winter term is off to a successful start. Over these first weeks of the term I’ve been impressed by the remarkable work underway by students in the classroom and all around OSU-Cascades.

One of my priority goals this academic year is to work with students – with you -- to create more opportunities that will enhance your experience at OSU-Cascades. Beginning today I am launching an effort to deepen the connection between students and the Office of the Vice President. Whether you live on or off campus, take classes full or part-time, seek a bachelor’s, a master’s or a doctoral degree, your voice is important to me.

You’ll see and hear more about this student engagement effort in the coming weeks. In the meantime, I ask that you to think about how your experience at OSU-Cascades. What is working well? What can be improved? Where do campus leadership and the student body need to better align?

As you see below there are many venues where your responses are welcomed, and more to come:

  • Serve on the Student Advisory Board – This new board will provide valuable input and recommendations on initiatives throughout campus, by meeting with me personally a few times each term. Members will represent the diversity of OSU-Cascades students. I invite you to express your interest in serving on the board by sending a note through a new feedback form or via any of the means below.
  • Contribute feedback on the Student Success Center – Planning for our next building, which will be fully devoted to student services and open in fall 2023, is now underway. Attend feedback sessions and provide input to campus planners on services you’d like to see within the building.  Offer your perspectives on plans for its architectural design.   • Connect via new Vice President web page – OSUcascades.edu has been enhanced to include a new page in the Leadership section devoted to how to connect with my office and link to a new blog containing my thoughts on current events and college tips. I invite you to explore it at osucascades.edu/leadership/interim-vice-president and let me know what you think.
  • Submit ideas in Suggestion Boxes – Look for new suggestion boxes located in all our campus buildings: Obsidian, Ray and Tykeson halls, and the Graduate & Research Center and residence hall. Submit your thoughts on any topic you think is important for me and other students to consider. As suggestions come in, we’ll post what we have heard near the boxes, so you can see what’s on fellow students’ minds.
  • Submit ideas to new Web Form – This virtual suggestion box will deliver your ideas directly to my office.  
  • Follow the Vice President on Instagram – Lastly, follow me on Instagram at instagram.com/osucascadesvp where you’ll stay up-to-date on news from around OSU, find out what I'm up to and learn about the incredible things Bend Beavs are doing on- campus and in the community.

In closing, I look forward to learning your thoughts and engaging with you in the coming weeks and months. Together, we can create an environment where students can connect with the OSU-Cascades campus leadership even more deeply and advance our shared goals.
