Dear OSU-Cascades Students,

The Search Advisory Committee for the OSU-Cascades Chancellor and Dean seeks your input. We will hold a listening session (via Zoom) tomorrow afternoon to hear from OSU-Cascades students. Your input will be used to inform the position profile that will be used to recruit candidates for this important leadership role. 

Student Listening Session: Wednesday, Nov. 30, 4 – 5 pm [Zoom password 502270]

We will use the following prompts during our listening session:

  • What are the most important opportunities and challenges facing OSU-Cascades?
  • What are the key agenda items for the OSU-Cascades Chancellor + Dean to work on?
  • What are the ideal qualities and qualifications for the OSU-Cascades Chancellor + Dean?
  • What are the points of pride for OSU-Cascades that should be emphasized as we work to create a robust candidate pool?

Please find next a synopsis of the responsibilities of the OSU-Cascades Chancellor and Dean. The OSU-Cascades Chancellor and Dean has both academic and operational responsibilities. The Chancellor and Dean works closely with leadership across the university to advance the excellence and impact of OSU-Cascades as a highly innovative campus that brings the resources of a land grant research institution and small university experience to central Oregon. The Chancellor and Dean is responsible for:

  • Leading operations, budgeting, and physical development of the campus.
  • Leading the development and implementation of the academic program portfolio of the campus, through building and maintaining strong relationships with the deans of OSU’s 11 colleges, the dean of the Honors College, and the vice provost and dean of the Graduate School;
  • Overseeing strategic planning and alignment of campus goals and plans with OSU’s overall strategic plan.
  • Achieving the campus goal for net zero energy, water, and waste.
  • Actively stewarding community and industry partnerships, and relationships with state and local leaders.
  • Proactively advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion goals in all mission elements.
  • Undertaking fundraising and alumni engagement in partnership with the OSU Foundation.
