From: Vice Provost for Student Affairs and Interim Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer
Dear OSU Corvallis Students,
We know many community members are concerned and dismayed following the report of a physical assault reported to have been motivated by sexual orientation bias that occurred Thursday, Feb. 17, 2022, at about 10:45 p.m. on our Corvallis campus. Hate and violence have no place in our university community, yet, we must reckon with the fact this incident has harmed our community.
To those who are hurting as a result of this news, we want to let you know you are seen and we share your pain. As community members, especially those who are not immediately harmed in this moment, we must continue working to uplift the dignity and humanity of every OSU community member by challenging hate wherever we observe it.
We know incidents like these can be traumatic. We want to remind you that you have resources to support you: Counseling and Psychological Services, the Survivor Advocacy Resource Center, and the OSU Bias Incident Response Hotline which may be reached by calling 541-737-1731. Additionally, any student community member may utilize transportation services in the Corvallis community provided by ASOSU Safe Ride or request a campus escort through the Department of Public Safety.
In addition to those resources, a Community Care Circle will be held Tuesday, Feb. 22 at 6:30 p.m. at the Kaku-Ixt Mana Ina Haws. This event will include staff from Counseling and Psychological Services office for attendees to speak with if they choose. Staff from the Pride Center, Diversity and Cultural Engagement, University Housing & Dining Services, and the Office of Institutional Diversity also will be available. Accommodation requests related to disability should be made to Cindy Konrad at [email protected] or 541-737-9969.
We also want to remind you this incident is being actively investigated by the OSU Police Department. Anyone with information about this crime is encouraged to call the OSU Department of Public Safety at 541-737-7000.
In care,
Dan Larson, Vice Provost for Student Affairs
Scott Vignos, Interim Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer
