Priority Registration

New Fall 2025 Advising Registration Hold (Undergraduate & Postbaccalaureate): If you have an Advising Registration Hold, please connect with your advisor before fall term registration. This hold will prevent registration starting May 19, 2025. 

Overview

Priority registration takes place over several days during which students are eligible to begin registering for classes for the upcoming term.
  • Students are assigned a single, prioritized registration window based on their class level and total earned credits, including transfer credits.
  • Undergraduate and postbacc students can register for up to 19 credits as soon as their registration window opens.
  • Waitlist access is available from the start of registration.

Summer Term: There is no priority registration and advising hold for summer term. Registration for summer term begins at 8:00 AM on the same day for all students. Check the Academic Calendar for key registration dates and deadlines.

Step 1: Log into Beaver Hub

Step 2: Select the Academics tab

Step 3: Under Academic Resources, click Check Your Registration Status.

Step 4: Select the term, click Submit

Holds: If you have a hold which prevents registration, you must first take the steps necessary to clear the hold before you can register.

Advising Registration Hold

  • All degree-seeking undergraduates (including postbaccs) will receive an advising registration hold. The hold requires students to meet with their advisor before registering for classes.
  • The advising registration hold will be placed on your student account by Week 3 of every term, if applicable for your college.
  • Your advisor is responsible for lifting the hold during your advising appointment. Contact or meet with an academic advisor to finalize your class schedule and to have your advising hold lifted.
  • Your assigned registration time for the upcoming term only works if your hold has been lifted by that time.

Graduate students and non-degree (campus-based) students are not required to have an advising registration hold.

Non-degree Online Students with Ecampus need to complete the Nondegree Online Orientation. After you complete the orientation, you can register for courses. For more information, contact Ecampus Student Services at [email protected] or 541-737-9204, option #1.

Newly Admitted Students must participate in a new student onboarding session and meet with an advisor before registering for classes. Visit the Office of New Student Onboarding for details about the new student onboarding experience. When you connect with your advisor, they will lift the advising hold, allowing you to register for classes.

Graduate Students At the assigned registration date, all degree-seeking graduate students may begin registering on Monday, May 19 at 6:00 AM and all professional students may register on Monday, May 19 starting at 7:00 AM.

Undergraduate Students Students are assigned a registration date and time based on class level and total earned hours. It’s possible that students with the same class level and credit hours may have different registration dates/times. Indicated below is the earliest access time for each class level to register.

Restrictions

There are restrictions on some courses, and these will continue. Some are managed by academic units, and some are managed at the campus level. Please look carefully at course details to understand restrictions. 

Corvallis-campus students can start registering for most online (Ecampus) class sections starting Week 10 of the term (June 2 at 6:00 a.m. (PDT) for fall 2025). Other restrictions use different timelines.

Registration Priority by Student Status

  • Disability Access Services (DAS) approves and provides a priority time slot when a student’s disability-related impact requires an accommodation.
  • Graduate and professional students register at the beginning of registration.
  • Postbaccalaureate students register after undergraduate seniors.
  • Student-athletes and Honors College students are provided with priority time slots to accommodate their unique schedule needs.
  • Veterans and dependents using veterans’ educational benefits and veterans and military members who submit appropriate documentation, are eligible for priority registration in order to achieve timely program completion. Visit the Veteran Priority Registration page for more information.

The university is updating the current registration process to leverage new system capabilities which provides opportunities for enhancements and streamlining. The changes are to improve the overall experience of registration and to meet the Prosperity Widely Shared goal of being a university where every student graduates.

Streamlined Changes for Fall 2025 Registration 

Beginning with fall 2025 registration, the two-phase registration process (Phase 1 and Phase 2) has been eliminated to simplify and streamline the student registration experience.  

  • One priority registration window. 
  • 19 credits allowed from the start of registration for undergraduate and postbaccalaureate students. 
  • Waitlisting available from the start of registration. 

A single, prioritized registration window will be assigned to each student based on their class level and total earned credits. 

  • Students can secure a full schedule without waiting for a second date, reducing the need to rearrange courses. 

Students can register for up to 19 credits as soon as their registration window opens (for undergraduate and postbacc students)

  • This helps ensure graduating seniors can stay on track for graduation and accommodates the Common Course Numbering (CCN) credit increases. 

 

 

Waitlist access is available from the start of registration. 

  • This simplifies advising meetings, as advisors no longer need to wait to discuss waitlist options. It also provides departments with more time to manage course availability.

Extra Credits Petition

Undergraduate and graduate students may submit their respective Extra Credits Petition forms as soon as registration opens.

Registration PIN replaced with Advising Registration Hold

Beginning with fall 2025 registration in May, OSU will switch from using registration PINs (the six-digit code) to using advising registration holds.

How it works 

  • Instead of getting a PIN, undergraduate and postbaccalaureate students will receive an advising registration hold. The hold requires students to connect with their academic advisor before registering for classes. 

  • The advising registration hold will be placed on your student account in Week 3 of every term, if applicable for your college. 

    • This hold is received by all new students (first-year and transfer), after that holds are applied based on your college's rules, which means that a hold may be applied annually or term-by-term.  

  • Your advisor is responsible for lifting the hold after reviewing your academic plan. 

  • Your assigned registration time for the upcoming term only works if your hold has been lifted by that time. 

 

Fall 2025 registration timeline 

  • The advising registration hold will be placed on your student account in Week 3 of spring term. 

  • The hold will prevent you from registering for the upcoming term but will not prevent you from withdrawing from current classes. 

  • Connect or meet with an academic advisor to finalize your class schedule and have your advising registration hold lifted for fall 2025.

Impacts to summer 2025 registration

  • The hold is placed for fall registration on Monday, week 3 of spring term, which is when summer registration opens. 
  • Students and advisors will be able to see the hold, but it will not stop students from registering for summer classes until week 8 of spring when fall registration opens, when it will prevent all registration, summer and fall. 
  • Advisors will be able to lift the fall registration hold, beginning week 3 of spring term. Once lifted, the advising registration hold will not be placed again for that term.

Why the change

  • This change is part of our ongoing efforts to improve and simplify the student experience when registering for classes.  

  • The current PIN-based process is highly customized and no longer compatible with essential system upgrades.  

  • Based on the feedback we gathered last fall through various channels, including advising surveys, direct feedback from students, and stakeholder engagement meetings, a majority expressed support for moving away from PINs and implementing holds for class registration.  

Ecampus Course Registration Changes 

Beginning with fall 2025 registration, most online undergraduate class sections will open to Corvallis-campus students Monday, Week 10 (June 2 at 6:00 a.m. (PDT) for fall 2025).  

How it works 

  • Corvallis-campus students can begin registering for most online (Ecampus) class sections Monday, Week 10 (June 2 at 6:00 a.m. (PDT) for fall 2025).

  • The online restriction only applies to undergraduate-level courses. 

  • This change applies to fall, winter and spring terms. Summer term is excluded. 

  • Graduating seniors may be eligible for an exception during their final term(s) but need to work with their advisors to request an override. 

 

Compliance population exceptions

Due to compliance requirements, certain student groups qualify for an exception to this restriction.

If you qualify for an exception

  • You will receive an email from the Office of the Registrar with information regarding the exception and the process. 
  • As an overview, when you register, you will encounter the restriction, then you will receive an email, letting you know the restriction has been cleared and to try again. At the time you receive this message, you will not be registered for the class. You will need to go back to your registration and reattempt to register. We recommend registering as soon as possible after receiving the email below to secure a seat in the section.

Impacts to summer 2025 registration

There will be no impact on summer registration as this restriction only applies to fall, winter, and spring terms.

Why the change

This change is being implemented to ensure OSU Ecampus students, most of whom are not located in Corvallis, have the opportunity to register for their required courses and to meet the Prosperity Widely Shared goal of being a university where every student graduates.  

Course Overrides

The override for the Ecampus restriction still resides in each college for their courses, just as it is with current overrides for courses. If you require a campus override, here is a helpful course override resource.
